A former member of the attacking ranks at Barcelona has moved to throw his backing behind fellow La Liga giants Real Madrid.

As much comes amid ongoing criticism of Los Blancos across sections of the football landscape.

Carlo Ancelotti’s troops are of course fresh off booking their spot in yet another Champions League final, late on Wednesday night.

After welcoming German heavyweights Bayern Munich to the Spanish capital for the 2nd leg of the semi-final tie between the clubs, Real ultimately emerged on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline.

And yet, in the game’s aftermath, many were quick to point towards ‘luck’ being on the side of the capital outfit once more.

Los Merengues had a pair of late goals on the part of Joselu to thank for their victory, with as much having been followed by controversy at the other end, upon Matthijs de Ligt seeing his fine finish ruled out for offside.

This is of course far from the first occasion on which Real Madrid have come close to being sent packing from Europe this season.

Time and time again, though, as has proven the case for over a decade now, the newly-crowned La Liga champions have found a way to get the job done.

And this was a message which Thierry Henry was eager to reiterate post-match on Wednesday night.

Speaking as part of his role as a pundit for CBS Sports, ex-Barcelona hitman Henry, not for the first time this season, defended Carlo Ancelotti’s side, adamant that ‘luck’ has little to do with their success:

“This is not luck. This is called Real Madrid. Period.

“If I told you Real Madrid would win with an assist by Rüdiger and a tap-in by Joselu, you would have said no chance. Well that is Real Madrid, this is what they do.”
