Philip Holzer is stepping down from his role as chairman of the supervisory board and from the supervisory board of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG.

Philip Holzer will be stepping down from the supervisory board of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG as of 30 June 2024. The 58-year-old investment banker has been head of the board since summer 2020, when he took over from Wolfgang Steubing. Holzer shared his decision in a personal conversation with president Mathias Beck and informed the members of the supervisory board and the executive board of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG personally after the last Bundesliga match of the season on Saturday against Leipzig.  “The time to communicate this decision, which I had come to after much careful deliberation, was ideal when the club once again qualified for European competition,” Holzer explained. “Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG will have important strategic and squad decisions to make over the coming months, the impact of which will be felt long after my period in office was scheduled to come to an end in summer 2025. As such, it was a logical consequence as far as I was concerned that these decisions should be shaped and made by those people who will have responsibility for them in the future. After 14 years on the supervisory board of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG, including four years as elected chairman of the board, it is time for me to hand on the baton.”

“Despite the many challenges of recent years, mutual trust and reliability across all levels of cooperation have enabled us to build a solid foundation – in terms of the content and the human and structural resources – for the club’s positive sporting development, and we have been able to enjoy the rewards that they have reaped. It is now three years since the COVID-19 pandemic, and Eintracht Frankfurt is well positioned in every aspect of the club. The Fußball AG will conclude the year 2023/24 with a record turnover, having stabilised our equity – despite losses of €80 million due to the pandemic – at pre-COVID levels. This all points to continued healthy growth for Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG. Moments like our men’s team winning the Europa League title in 2022 and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League will live long in the memory, as will the successes that we have had in women’s football.”

Regular meeting of supervisory board

“We would like to thank Philip Holzer for more than 14 years on the supervisory board of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG, the last four as chairman,” said Eintracht president Mathias Beck. “His services to Eintracht Frankfurt have been enormous. Philip has proven constantly over the years that his heart beats true for Eintracht. While we will miss Philip greatly, we respect his decision and fully understand why he is taking this step. We would like to wish Philip all the very best for the future. He will forever remain a part of the Eintracht family.”

The new make-up of the supervisory board of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG will be decided by the board this coming Tuesday, 21 May, at its regular meeting.
