The Bayern Munich manager is the bookmakers’ favourite to take over from Erik ten Hag in the summer amid speculation that the Dutchman will be sacked at the end of the season.

A Champions League winner during an 18-month spell with Chelsea, 50-year-old Tuchel will leave Bayern later this month having failed to win a trophy in his one full season in charge of the German giants.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, Tuchel hinted that he would be open to returning to English football having enjoyed his time in west London.

“It is no secret that I loved it at Chelsea,” he stated.

“I loved it in England, and I loved it in the Premier League for sure. It was a very, very special time in England, and I remember it very well.”

Bayern were beaten by two late Joselu goals at the Bernabeu to deny a Champions League final meeting with domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

Tuchel faced criticism for substituting Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala shortly before Madrid’s comeback, but explained post-match that they were suffering from fatigue and injury.

Few clear candidates have emerged to take the Old Trafford hotseat in the summer should Ten Hag be sacked for a wildly inconsistent season, which has seen them lose a club record number of Premier League games while also reaching the FA Cup final.

Reports suggest a decision on his future will be made after that match with Manchester City and that his successor will not be chosen on their trophy record. England boss Gareth Southgate, former Chelsea coach Graham Potter and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi have also been linked.
